About The Spot

Walking into The Spot Restaurant feels like being let in on a local secret that everyone somehow already knows. This hamburger restaurant sits right on University Avenue in Charlottesville, and from the first glance it gives off that relaxed, no-nonsense energy that makes you want to hang out a little longer. I usually describe it as the kind of place where conversations flow as easily as the coffee, and where comfort food is taken seriously without being fussy. The Spot has a straightforward menu built around crave-worthy burgers, quick bites, and late-night favorites, which makes it perfect whether you’re grabbing food between classes, meeting friends after work, or looking for something satisfying when most kitchens are already closed. What really stands out is how flexible the experience feels, because you can choose to dine in and soak up the casual vibe, swing by for takeaway when you’re short on time, or order delivery and enjoy it wherever you land. The atmosphere leans classic and welcoming, and there’s something familiar about the way the place hums, especially during busy hours when people are coming and going. I like introducing The Spot as a place that doesn’t try to be trendy, yet somehow always feels current, thanks to its focus on good food and easy service. The coffee offerings make it a solid daytime stop, while the comfort food and quick-bite options keep it popular well into the night. Located at 1407 University Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903, United States, it’s right where you want it to be, close to campus life and local energy, making it a dependable go-to for anyone who wants a simple, satisfying meal without overthinking it. I often point out how the steady stream of regulars says a lot, and how the friendly pace makes first-timers feel instantly comfortable, since the focus stays on flavor, accessibility, and an easygoing rhythm that fits naturally into daily Charlottesville routines.

Food was great, service was great. Not really a fan of setting at a burger bar with strangers on each side of me. But I would go back, enjoyed the food and the employees done a good job.

They serve the tastiest burgers in Charlottesville. Everyone should try at least one of their burgers. The sides are also great.

Still Charlottesville’s undisputed heavyweight champion of late night eats, after all these years! Gus Burger is legendary, and if you’re hungry grab a Double Gus or a Motor Burger. No meal here is complete without a Grillswith: two glazed donuts fried on the grill and topped with vanilla ice cream. This place ain’t fancy, but the food here just hits “the spot.” Really enjoyed bringing my two boys here for their first visit to one of my favorite places growing up in Cville.

A Charlotteville classic. You haven't lived until you've had a late-night Gus burger and fries. They also have to go orders if you're ready to pass out. Even sober, this food is amazing - prepared fresh for you. Highly recommend

I really enjoyed the spot. My wife wasn’t in the mood and the place is a dive. That said, the Gus Burger is super tasty, there onion rings delicious and our cooks were most welcoming so what’s not to like! We stopped in due to a recommendation from a UVA alumni who said this was a famous student hangout. We get it. Nothing fancy but great tasting burger and some other usual stuff.
